Looking for some info and help!!!
I'm looking at buying a old Massey Harris 55 diesel with wide front..... first off what is such a tractor worth.....it runs decent, always been shedded....respectable paint for its age, tractors tin work is straight, not sure of any options....PTO, 3 point, hydraulic lift, belt pulley....etc..... Only thing wrong that I know of on the tractor is it jumps out of 3rd gear. What would cause it to jump out of gear? Any info would be great!!!! Thanks Massey Fans!!!!

The book I have on Masey tractors list's the following options.Lights,Crown fenders,150 LB rear wheel weights,Power takeoff,Hand clutch instead of foot clutch.Belt pulley was standard equipment. As for the trans slipping out of gear. You could have a worn gear. The shifter fork may not be pulling the gear al the way into position. You also could have worn bearings.Hope this helps you.

I don't think 3-point was available on the 55. Does the tractor you are looking at kinda look like this one. Is the front axle arched? I have been told that means its a Western Special. This one also has hydraulics but I think they are aftermarket. You can see the hoses/pump next the rad which goes to the reservoir under the fuel tank. The hydraulic valves are on the right fender. PTO was an option. Mine doesn't have it but its set up for one. The value can depend on a lot of things. I bought mine dirt cheap ($270)because it was non running. Engine was loose but didn't run. The auction outfit didn't bother to air up the tires which are good. Neighbor and I spend a couple hrs last month on it and it now runs pretty good. I would say the tractor you are looking at would be worth $500 to $1,000 and probably closer to $1,000.

JD5020 guy mentioned a couple good points.Hydraulics are listed as extra equipment in my book.If it has the arched front axle and the small rear hubs with the big tires as in the picture and a hand clutch it is what they called the western special.JD5020 guy you got yourself a good deal on the tractor.Hope you plan on painting it all up.Would like to see a picture of it when it is done.My 55 had the hydraulic system on it from factory.

I did get a steal on this tractor but the 555 I bought at the same auction will make up for it. It only cost me $160 but the engine is stuck, transmission is stuck, and steering is stuck.
