I'm having trouble hooking up my new voltage regulator on my 1976 MF 135. There are three posts marked Bat, F, & L. On the back of the regulator is another post, which looks like a ground but not sure. There are two wires that go to the alternator. The system is a 12 volt, all original I believe.

Sand, I agree with Dean, the Voltage Regulator you describe is a 4 terminal VR for use on a Generator NOT an Alternator. On 4 terminal VR's the terminal off to one side or the bottom all by itself is often the ARM terminal that wires to the Gens ARM post. BAT wires to the load side of the ammeter, Fld wires to the Gens Fld post, (L)OAD is what feeds power to loads like lights n ignition via a switches BAT input terminal.

If your tractor is a US built MF135 and it has a alternator on it that voltage regulator is the wrong one. The voltage regulator you have is for one with a generater. The MF135 use both through the years a generator up to about 1970 then an alternator after that. If I can be of further Email me

Big Dean, I've got a question for you regarding the front grille tinwork on a 1968 (about then) MF 135. The grille has been beat up quite a bit on my friends tractor and I am straightening and welding the tin back together. On the side leg panels where the lights bolt onto, are those surfaces FLAT (where the light stem hole is) or is the tinwork somewhat recessed around the hole? Can't tell for sure, both seem recessed and one is a bit different than the other because the damage is different on the two sides. Straightening the side panels out flat would be easy but if the area around the hole is convoluted a bit, well it makes it a bit tougher. I thought that maybe the bend around there was due to the headlights being bent over and over. Thanks for your help.

Mike those panels should be flat where the lights bolt on.

Thanks Dean, I thought they might be but didn't know for sure. They flattened out quite well, that is a very complicated grille assembly, this one was driven into something and everything was bashed or loose. Still missing the center panel and the top styled hood front (frille top). I think I will spot weld some heavy washers on the inside of those light holes to stiffen things up a bit, the tin is a bit flimsey for light anchoring I'd say. Thanks again, MIKE
