I have a massey 50 with a serial number of JGF512470. How do I tell if it is a massey ferguson or massey harris.

I believe this tractor was made at the time of the merger of Massey Harris & Ferguson Companies. The idea was to keep the Massey Harris dealers happy as well as the Ferguson dealers until they could integrate the two sales organizations.

The Prefix letters in that serial are for a Industrial tractor but the number it's self is not on anything I have on the industrial tractors it is in the MH50 farm tractor serial number as CT says that number is for a 1957 MH50 I have never saw an industrail version of those but that don't mean they did not have one. The prefix letter stand for the J is for Industrail tractors the G is for a gas engine and the F is for a single clutch. Can you post a picture of it or email me a picture I would like to see it

Any idea what a 1958 model MF propane 50 hp is worth in good running condition, my friend wants to sell it to me for 3k? Thanks Rob in TN.

The "Serial Numbers" link on the left side of this page shows that you have a 1957 Massey Ferguson. The Massey Harris page doesn't list a model 50. C. T.

I stopped looking at the MH 55, sorry about that. Just glad I told you where I looked. Checked tractortips.com and they show a 50 also. Maybe the picture will clear it up. C. T.

Is there any other place on the tractor where a number might help? The hood emblem has a MF on it but it is the rounded hood. someone told me the round hood was a massey harris.

The MH50 hood has concave top corner running from front to back. The MF50 hood has round top corners tuning from front to back that is about the only difference in the looks of the two tractors.
