MF 1085 PTO problems

I just bought a low hour MF 1085 with cab and air. I changed the hydraulic filter and noticed some shiny metal particles but didn't change the entire transmission oil. The tractor had 3098 hours which may be correct because it still had the original radiator hoses and belts. It is a 1975 model.

After using the PTO for 22 hours with a disc mower and a JD round baler, the PTO just quit on me. It will turn without a load, but when you try to do any work it just quits turning.

Right up to when it quit there was no slippage evident. No noises or fluid leaks.

I also read that the pump that supplies the PTO also drives the multi-power. My multi-power works great.

Any and all suggestions or comments appreciated.

My multipower and pto started slipping about a year ago. Multipower slipped in and out of high muti power on the way to the hay field about 4 miles away. started cutting hay and after a few acres, the cutter would keep bogging down. After aprroximatly 30 minutes of this, pto would operate but would stop at the least resistance. Aux, hyds. worked good. Drained hyd. fluid and it smelled burnt with little shinny metal pieces and little fibers. Split tractor and found the hyd line that went from the pump to the pto clutch pack loose. Replaced the pump and pto disc and plates. Tractor works fine now.
