I was mowing this afternoon and all of a sudden the mower stopped. I looked back at the PTO and there way hydraulic fluid POURING out of the hole where the shaft was.

Luckily I was only about 1/4 mile from the house so I put her in high and made it to the shed.

When I unhooked the chopper the whole PTO shaft about 3 feet long came out-there was no visible seal or whatever was there-so it must have disenigrated or blew apart in the field.

Taking her to the dealer Monday morning. Anyone have any ideas what may have destructed inside? Any ideas on repair cost?

There is a snap ring that holds the bearing on to the shaft at the back just inside the bearing and seal retainer. I have seen a lot of those snap rings come off letting the shaft pull out Hope this helps

Thanks Big Dean! Now that I look I see the slot where that snap ring would have been.

Are they going to have to split the tractor to put that back?

There is no reason it should have to be split to replace the pto shaft probably all they will have to do is remove the bearing and seal retainer and reassemble it and the shaft. If the gear and coupler fell down they would remove the access plate on the left side with the pto shift lever in it. the worse it should be if you have factory auxiliary with the two steel lines come from the access plate the liftcover would have to be removed to put the gear and coupler back in place.
