(Sorry about the cross-post from Implement Alley, but I need input before tomorrow evening, as I plan to buy one of these plows for my '61 35 Perkins diesel.)

----- ----- ----- ----- ----- ----- ----- ----- -

I answered a want ad today and looked at a 3-12 MF 62 for $125 and a 3-14 MF 43 for $350 (CDN). The 62 has a broken front coulter disk.

Apart from the missing disk, both plows seem to be in very good condition, greased well and kept indoors.

I understand that the 43 can be adjusted to plow as a 3-12, and of course it has a trip mechanism.
Anyone know how hard it would be to get the 12-14" brace to replace the 14-16" one?

The reason for the sale is the guy bought a new 4WD MF, and finds the category 2 hitch won't fit the 43, so he bought a 3-14 International at an auction.

I go back to pick one up tomorrow evening. Any suggestions?

Thanks,

Rod

Rod, I am sure not an expert on plows, but necessity has caused me to do some experimenting recently.I have used a 2x12 with a 135 with pretty good results even plowing sod. However with my MF 175 and a 3x12 plow it wont turn the sod over, the 3x12 is fine on ground that been worked recently but your not cutting very deep, 6 " max. Ive located a 3x14 that for $175. im going to try. I think the moral of the story is for sod and to plow deep enough to barry weeds, go with less bottoms and bigger plows. Im not doing that big a field, dont think you are. That Mf 3x14 for $ 350. cdn sound like a good buy, If you dont want it let me know. Good luck, Lou

The MF 43 plough is in the vicinity of Balderson, Ontario. The owner's number is 613-267-2210. Nice guy.

Good luck.
