MH-50 Hyd piston rings or no rings?

I just pulled my Hyd pump and finished taking it apart. I noticed that the pistons has three ring groves in them but i dont see Any rings. Are the pistons supposed to have rings on them or are they made to work like that. If they supposed to have rings on them than i found my problem. THX.

The original pump used in the MH50 did not have rings on the pump pistons. They had very small grooves in then

Do you know if the new pistons come with rings? Mine are really scratched up and has some play in them. The reason i thought to rebuild it was while the lift cover was off and the engine running the pump was just barely pumping and was just pumping oil about once every second. Is there any tips you can give one rebuilding my pump? THX zac
