I have a MF 175 Diesel built in 1973.
I just bought the unit so I have no history on the gauges or if it has been rewired. I don"t know if each of the problems below are inter related or are each seperate problems/fixes.

1. The Water Temp gauge does not move. It only has one wire coming out of it and it hooks into the top of ??block?? right behind the radiator fan.

2. The fuel gauge bounces around erratically. When I turn on the light switch (any position) the gauge then goes to empty and will not move. It does not appear to have a wire going to it from the oil pressure gauge.

The oil pressure gauge basically pegs out. I can get it to back down a little if take the throttle down to a very slow idle.

The amp meter is a sunpro and seems to work fine.

The RPM gauge has also been recently replaced, but seems to work fine.

If new gauges are needed, where is the best place to get them. This is a using tractor so exact factory parts are not necessary.

Thanks,
Kyle

eklyle,

It sounds like you might need some new gauges. Here are some places that have a lot of MF stuff that you could try: Pittsburg Tractor Parts (Texas) 1-800-342-6568. Mac Tractor Parts (Colcord, OK) 1-800-882-4742. These places specialize in MF parts they should have just about any gauge that you need.

Your fuel gauge does need a 12V supply. make sure it is ok. You can remove the fuel sender to verify that the resistor is in contact with the moving needle. Also make sure the sender has a proper ground, some tank are mounted on rubber. I just went through gauges replacement on our 180 after a small electrical fire.

The fuel gauge is the only electric gauge apart from the ammeter. Check that the sender unit is well earthed. The temperature gauge is a gas tube type, it has probably work hardened and cracked allowing the gas to escape. Renew the complete assembly. The oil pressure gauge is an oil fed type, replace is suspect. Neither of these two are very dear, avaiable from aftermarket suppliers such as VAP.
