Recently got a MF 1080 Diesel that set outside for at least 5 years without being started. When we started it, it fired right up but had a bad noise. Pulled valve cover and the snap ring on rocker arm shaft was gone. Found it in oil pan and replaced it with new one. The engine starts easy but has a weird rattle/knock. The oil pressure is good (50 lbs + ) It appears that it was and is slobering out the exhaust but dosen"t have excessive blow-by. The tractor shows 3200 hrs and I am pretty sure that is correct. Any ideas on why it would loose snap ring off rocker shaft? Would the noise be injector or hole in piston? Anyone ever had this?

I have a MF 1085. My valve lifters rattled a little after the tractor had sat for a year due to hyd and pto problems. These tractors were notorious for head gasket problems and maybe someone had replaced one, knocking it out of position while reassembling. Then it made its way to the oil pan.
