What is the difference, if any between the MF 35 & TO 35? The tractor I am trying to identify would appear from the decals to be a MF 35. The identification plate on the dash shows the model as a TO 35. It was manufactured by MF in Racine Wis. Serial number is 19----.
Thanks

Thanks for the info folks. One bit of perhaps crucial info I should have mentioned is that this tractor is in Canada and was originally sold in Canada, even tho' the spec plate indicates it was built in Wisconsin. It is 4 cyl gas (probably Continental - I'm not sure where to look for that info), 4 spd tranny with hi-lo range and seemingly 2 stage PTO. Perhaps tractors manufactured for sale in Canada had different specs than those sold in the US. The reason I am looking at this machine is that while I like the Ford 2N that I have I would like "live" PTO and hydraulics. And I thought Studebakers were mix and match machines (LOL)!!

Don't laugh. When I was very young, the Studebaker dealer in Houston, TX. had an early model where the trunk looked like the hood' both pointed. This dealer put a hood on the trunk and I used to ask my grandpa to take me to see the "two front car". Car was about a '46 to '49.

Long time ago.

This site (and tractortips.com) lists the TO 35 under the Ferguson name, not MF or MH. It also appears that yours is a 1959 model (1959 Dsl 187719). Is yours a diesel or Continental gas? C. T.

My service manual covers MF35 and Fergie TO35 (Just went out to the shop and got it).

In scanning thru it there are a lot of similarities and a lot of sections discuss both without distinction between the two types. So, other than a lift cover on the hood and some paint and decal changes, there could be no difference between some TO's and some early model MF's.

I did notice that in the 35 they upped the hyd. pump pressure from 2000 to 2500 psi and increased the pump efficiency for 4gpm flow rate.

So I guess you could buy a TO outfitted out like a MF as I mentioned earlier. I know the diesel was a Standard 4 cyl at first on the MF so if your TO was diesel it should be that. Later on the MF started using the 3-152 Perkins.

That's the best I can do for you.

My 35 has a 152 cu in Perkins 3 cyl diesel, Live PTO or ground PTO (switched as desired), 6 speed tranny. If it were a 35 Deluxe it would also have power steering and a fancy seat with arm rests and would tilt out of the way when you stand up and run....like when you are sweating or get tired of sitting.

Never saw a TO-35 but my TO-20 made in Detroit, only had a 4 sp, trans driven pto, gasser, manual steering and the clutch had to be out to run anything. So letting the clutch allowed the deck to raise, pto to start, and tractor to move all in one. Very undesirable.

I'd assume the 35 was just a higher hp 20. I think the 20 was rated at 27 hp. The MF 35 is right at 36 pto hp.
