TO-35 hydraulics repair question

I just bought a Ferguson TO-35. Previous owner started it up and tried to lift a scrape, but it was frozen to the ground. He heard a loud bang and now the lift arms won't lift at all, they are just limp arms. I got the service and parts manuals. I have removed the cover and drained the old oil out. I don't see anything that is obviously broken, yet. Any tips on what I should look at first would be greatly appreciated!

Check the bolts that hold the cylinder to see if one or more are broke also look the cylinder over good for a crack in it. Those are the 2 most common things I have found when one make a loud pop and then quits lifting.

Thanks guys. I have not had any time to look closely at the cylinder, but sure enough Big Dean, the front left stud is broken right where it enters the hydraulic lift cylinder! Why does this affect the lift? Mickey, I will email you so we can talk.

There is an O-ring between the cylinder and the liftcover usually when one of the bolts break it lets the oil leak past the O-ring or a lot of times it will blow the O-ring out from where it set in a recess in the lift cover.

Big Dean thanks for that explanation! Now I understand what the broken bolt has to do with no pressure getting to the big piston. I hope to take it apart this weekend, remove and replace the broken stud, check everything for cracks and fix the problem. I will post back with the results. Have a great weekend.

Sure enough, the O ring between the cylinder housing and the cover was broken. The front left stud was broken and the other three studs are bent. I am replacing them and all the O rings, including those in the pump, while I have it all opened up. Thanks, Big Dean!
