I recently bought a second hand 2 wheel drive MF 690 .The PTO could be engaged and disengaged in the normal way by clutching and shifting the PTO lever into its engaged/disengaged slot as required .I then changed the hydraulic oil and filter .Now the PTO can be engaged as usual but it will not disengage unless the engine is turned off .Has anyone had this problem before ?

Forgot to ask you: What kind of fluid did you put in it? I changed mine with MF PermaTran III and have not had any problems with the PTO stopping. Post back with what you put in it.

I have a MF690, 1983 model and do not understand what you mean by "engaged and disengaged in the normal way by clutching and shifting the PTO lever into its engaged/disengaged slot as required". My 690 has independent PTO and the clutch has nothing to do with it; you just shift the PTO in or out with the lever. Engine RPMs below 1600 is recommended for shifting, but the clutch is not involved. It may be your PTO brake not holding when disengaged; have you tried putting a load on the PTO to see if it stops when you shift it to the "disengage" position?
