I mow with my recently purchased MF65 gas, and the heat from the horizontal exhaust is intense in summer. Can the parts necessary to convert a horizontal exhaust to vertical be purchased readily and where can I purchase them?

Also, I need the rubber hose (reducer) that ties the carb (via hose clamps) to the rest of the induction system tubing. Can that be readily purchased anywhere?

I am also thinking of converting to electronic ingition parts. I have had good success with a conversion on an old Oliver 70 but with another cheap ($20) modual years ago. Does anyone have experience with newer brands of electronics for the Massey that can attest to the value of converting?

I converted to vertical exhaust using all off-the-shelf parts from NAPA. I connected the standard MF-65 muffler horizontally to the "U" coming off the exhaust manifold so it sits nicely up above the carb. Coming off the muffler, I connected a 90 degree elbow to get out from under the hood, and a 45 degree elbow to direct the exhaust straight up. Then I just connected a 3 foot long piece of straight pipe with a exhaust cap, and I'm done. It looks like a factory job, and doesn't interfere at all with my loader--the stack runs up between the right loader arm and the hood of the tractor.

Thanks for your input. Do you have a picture you can send me so I can see what the vert. muffler would look like. I want to convert also

1. Take the tractor to a muffler shop and with a few bucks and minimum time they will custom build just what you want. BTDT

2. Dunno if MF still supports your request but it's worth trying. Otherwise I have used vacuum cleaner hoses for air inlets and has worked fine since the hose is built so that it doesn't crush with suction on it. Home Depot sells spares.

3. I have used Genessee or Petronix elect ign systems on at least 3 tractors. Had one failure but it's no wonder as the guy I sold it to is really hard on his equip and is mechanically challenged....doesn't understand how to take care of his equip while he is doing what has to be done. I had used the tractor for over a year with it and had no problems before I sold it.

They cost about $100 and install in minutes. Save your old points/cond for an emergency.
