Massey 1100 probs

I recently got my grandpas old massey 1100 diesel running again but I've ran into some problems. At idle it smokes whitish and bluish then at working speed it doesnt smoke. Now to give you the circumstances if the smoke isn't a normal thing- the exhaust was rigged to allow a home-built loader frame and I don't think it is the stock muffler from looking in parts books at specs and the air filter is dated 1969 but I took it out and cleaned it. The hour meter reads 5900 so I doubt its overhaul time. The injector pump has a leak where one line goes in and when I tighten the bolt it stops then after a bit starts leaking again any ideas for a fix? Thanks for all the help. JaredM

Your problems go hand and hand..... ..the smoking whitish, blueish smoke is cause the tractors fuel system has a leak and the engines is sucking air at idle speed. When you rev the engine up it is not as noticable and all those engine then smoke a little black smoke..... some more than others. You claim you have a fuel leak at the pump....one of the lines that screw in the very top of the pump???...lots of lines there....please be more specific!!! If its the ones that screw into the top of the pump and go to every injector than there is a bronze washer that goes in connector and thats what seals the connection. I have a 1135 and thats how ours is and I'm sure yours as well..... .if more info is needed please email me....good luck and congrats on getting that red animal running again!!!

It is a line running to the injector and its at about 2'o clock looking down on the pump. Can you just get that washer at the hardware store or do you have to get it from a dealer or diesel shop. Thanks.

Okay, thanks for posting more info..... I have a parts book out at the farm on our 1135 with the same style fuel pump....will look tomorrow and see if I can come up with some part numbers for you.....and no you can't buy these parts at a hardware store....only genuine massey parts from a dealer. Will get back to you!!!

Thanks for the confirmation I thought I had bad rings or a blown head gasket. Marshal, does yours tranny grind real bad when you go to shift and do you still have park. According to the I&T manual park is a little lever that slides into the gears and snaps off kinda easily. I tried leaving it in gear but it starts to roll. Thanks. JaredM

If you want to park it on gear, you need to put it in reverse if its going downhill and in 1st 2nd or 3rd if its rolling backwards. Its like this with all Multi-Power models.

Its time to chuck away that old air filter and get a new one! Yes you can clean them, but after a while they do need replacing.
