My MF202 has a link belt put on by the previous owner. This seems to get around the tear down and so far its held up fine for me. Dont know if your belt runs more than mine tho

Changing the fan belt on tractors with front mounted pump There are a couple of ways to change the fan belt on the tractor with a front crankshaft driven pump you first remove the pump [1] You need an old pump to rob a shaft from. You then weld a socket to that the old pump shaft. If you have a regular transmission put both shift levers in high set the brakes turn the shaft clockwise the shaft has counterclockwise threads on it. The shaft can get very tight and if you have access to an impact wrench you will probably need it to bust the shaft loose If you have an industrial with the Instant Reverse (hydraulic shuttle) transmission you will have to use an impact for sure on them. [2] Without that homemade tool you remove the pump so the shaft can move forward. You unbolt the adapter plate from the crankshaft pulley. Some tractors there will be enough room you can slide the belt between the pulley and the adapter plate but most there will not be enough room for belt to slide through. If you don't have room to get the belt out you will have to put a jack under the oil pan to hold the weight (just take the weight do not raise the tractor) Loosen the six bolts 4 or 5 rounds the bolts that hold the front axle support to the engine so the front support can be pried forward enough to slide the belt through. You may also have to loosen the bolts that hold the front of the loader frame to the tractor.

Thank you Big Dean I was hoping you would reply.
I have an old pump from a 580 case. Would this be the same shaft? The 40B is an industrial with a backhoe and front loader. I just bought it. I have replaced seals in 3 of the cylinders and I guess I know now why this belt had not been changed. I was operating it and it overheated. When I checked the belt it was off and is shredded badly. Probably the original belt. Thanks again.

Thanks for the help. I did not have the shaft. I removed the pump, took the 4 bolts out of the shaft and slid it back. Sounds easy.

Thank you

Have seen people put a spare fan belt in at the same time. Fixed it with ties so it doesnt get caught up as the pully spins. When one goes you have one all ready to replace without doing the split thing again.

I am not sure what type shaft the 580 Case pump has but if it is a splind shaft and the same diameter I am sure it will work.
