MF 35 Clutch stuck

I have a 1962 MF 35 with a Z-134 gas engine and dual stage clutch. The last time I drove the tractor it worked fine. Today when I started the tractor the clutch was stuck and would not disengage. The high/low range shift has to be in neutral for the tractor to start and then you can shift it into high or low range but if you step on the clutch nothing happens and the tractor continues to drive. I have to shut the tractor off to stop. Any help or suggestions or possible causes would be appreciated.

Hi,
If you have driven through deep water or if the tractor has been parked maybe in driving rain or in a very wet atmosphere, that would be enough.
A couple of suggestions. I have freed many clutches in the past by engaging third low with low engine revs. Hold the clutch pedal down and STAMP on the brake pedal very hard but very briefly. There is a danger of damaging the plate but it has not happened yet.
Secondly, remove the cover from under the clutch housing and with the aid of a light and small screwdriver you may be able to carefully prise part of the disc off the flywheel. Turn the engine one half turn and do the same again.

Regards

David P

How soft is the pedal. All or two of the three fingers on the pressure plate may be worn through and have broken, or bent , allowing the thrust bearing to pass through.Stephen

with all the rain we had, rust buildup can glue the clutch disc to the pressure plate or flywheel

the first posted suggestion is excellent advice in that case

seems that if clutch was glued, you could not get tractor into gear after starting

Thats a common problem on many tractors. Tie the pedel down for a day or 2 and then if it doesn't pop loose start it up and drive it a round in the highest gear that you can. It may take and hour or so to get it to pop loose. Aslo if you can make it pull something that also helps, of course when you are driveing it around hold the pedel down.
