I have an MF65 with a G-176 gas engine and standard 8 speed transmission. It has dual hydraulic remotes. I have the by-pass turned all the way in as instructed by the manual. The right side remote (#2, I think) works my implements. It's a bit slow, but works fine. The single/double action switch on the back of that remote is out, in double acting mode. The left side remote, (#1, I think) raises and lowers the 3 pt hitch without regard to which position I have the single/double action switch, and without regard to where the 3 pt hitch controls (on the right side of the seat) are positioned. Reading the manual, and searching the archives of this site, I learned that if I lock back the left remote lever, that should activate the 3 pt hitch controls on the right side of the seat.

Well, it doesn't. When I locked back the left remote lever, the 3 pt hitch stayed up. I still could not control it with the 3 pt hitch controls. I could also tell that the engine was working harder and the governor kicked in to keep pumping oil through the left remote. I want to be able to use my 3 pt hitch controls. Any ideas what"s wrong?

To make things worse, when the oil heats up, the 3 pt hitch starts to leak down. It leaks to the ground in about 5 minutes with the engine running. Holding the left remote back solves the leak-down problem, but since it makes the engine work much harder, that can"t be the solution. Any suggestions?

Doug As old farmer says the pump control valves are bad about sticking on those old MF35 MF50 and MF65 a lot of times when they install one of those remotes valves on them people do not use the quadrant levers and not using them will cause the control valve to stick also. Another thing I have run into on several of them is the lift linkage was adjust so the control valve stayed in the raised position and the quadrant levers would not work the control valve when the remote valve was installed.

I'm assuming that you have two levers on the quadrant on the right side of the tractor. One is the draft control, which works in concert with the toplink connection to keep a plow level through the field, and the other is the lift control. As I understand it, when you have the draft control all the way back, you cannot lower the lift arms?
Occasionally my 65 does the same thing as the result of a sticking valve. Drain a bit of the Hydraulic oil and remove the cover plate from the right side of the tractor. From there you will be able to see if the valve controls are working. They may be sticking or out of adustment. You manual is pretty clear on how to make adjustments. You'll need a lifting platform of some kind and IIR correctly 600 pound of weight.
