i was trying to remove the lift arms but the bolts that go through the sway chains and through the hole in the lift arms would not budge. wrenches, heating and hammering had no effect. any suggestions?
2nd question. the lift arms don"t seem to raise very high. could barely get an auger to clear the ground even after making adjustments on the auger. there are two sets of holes on the lift arm. can the set of holes closer to the end of the arm be used when mounting the arms and will this allow the arms to raise higher. if this makes sense to anyone, any suggestions will be appreciated.
mf 3165 tractor.

Hi Mike I assume you are talking about the bolts that go through the stay chain the link from upper to lower lift arms. Of that is them I have had to either cut them with a cutting torch or I have used a hand grinder to grind them off. It not lifting high enough may be because it has a set of the long links from a farm high clearance MF165 tractor I have seen that a lot of times on the MF3165 and the MF30. One thing did you have the draft in the fully raised position and the position in transport position. another reason it could be the lift linkage may be out of adjustment. The next time you might try to put it in constant pumping to see if it will raise higher. If I can be of further help email me

Hi,
If you have tried all of those it must be very tight. Have you removed the lift arms from the tractor? Unless you have something solid (more than a hand-held weight) you are probably wasting your time. The chances are that you have damaged the end of the bolt and it has swollen. The best plan is to hacksaw through the bolt either side of the lift arm. With the lift arm removed you can tackle each side individually.
With regard to the lift arm height;
Don't know if you have a Pressure Control quadrant but check that the lever stop is not set too low. The stop can be moved upwards but NOT, and I repeat NOT to a point where they cannot be lifted by hand the last inch or so at the linkage ends. They should stop rising just before they reach the end of their possible movement.

Check also the amount of wear in all points of the linkage as you will loose lift there. If everything is OK you should be able to shorten the lift rods as a way of gaining height. The second hole may be used but if the rods are in the rear hole, you will get max height and max lift. If they are in the forward hole, you will get less lift and less height. You may have to change the position of the stabilizers.
Hope this helps
