Can anyone tell me how to determine the vintage of the MF-14 Serial No. 1944000437 machine that I bought at an auction recently?

Also: the 14 HP Kohler engine has no model-number/serial-number tag (that I can find) and I need to replace the missing starter motor...and probably several other things as well.

Thanks

Mike Cresswell

Good compression should be about 120 psi, anywhere from 90 to 120 is acceptable but most important is that the cylinders are within 10 percent of the highest reading.compression is measured in psi not ft lbs. also compression will change depending on elevation above sea level

Mike, Hi, this is John McKay (AKA Dapper, new e-mail address also). I never did get around to getting that manual, still need to do that! However, I can help provide the information you seek. My Massey is serial no. 194400230, with a Kohler 14hp engine model no. K321S serial no.60150C. I purchased mine used in 1973, I think it was only about 1 year old at the time so that would be around 1972, 1971 at the earliest. I just had the engine re-built for the first time.
I can provide the starter number if needed.

I will follow up with E-mail

John
