I have an MF 202 with a front bucket on it. The seal around the shaft of the hydraulic pump started leaking the other day, so I replaced the seal. When the hydraulics were put under load, it would blow the seal back out again, and leak. I ordered the new seal kit from MF, and replaced all inner, outer seals, and the spring and ball (the ball was wedged up into the spring). It continued to blow the seal out when put under pressure. I brought it to a local hydraulic shop, and they ground a groove in front of the seal and put a snap ring in. I just installed it, put it under pressure, and it destroyed the seal. My question- do I have to order a new pump @ $700, or is there something else wrong? Thanks in advance for your replies!!

Dean:

I may be way off base here as I am not an expert in hydraulics, but I installed the front pump & plumbing on my 165 w/ loader last year. It has a Denison vane pump which has a reversible cartridge. The first time I installed it the shaft seal blew as you described, I had the cartridge installed backwards, so I was using the suction side of the pump as the high-pressure side of the pump(blows the shaft seal every time).

I'm not familiar w/ the 202 or it's pump, but if it is reversible, check it out.

Jeff

If you replaced the inside seals and got them in right and it is still blowing the shaft seal then you can buy a new pump for less money that you can repair your pump you would have to replace all of the seals again and all of the bushing and still if the pump body or shafts are worn it still may not hold. Mac Tractor parts Inc. use to have those pumps for a lot less than that I don't know he gets for them now but I am sure it is cheaper than $700
