I've replaced this twice. When it fails it shuts off the gas supply to the carb; really a pain when I'm 1/2 mile from home mowing or such. This last time I sawed off the needle that closes when the solenoid loses 12V. Tractor started right up and I continued mowing. Other than stopping the engine from dieseling does it perform any other function? This electric valve is not mentioned in the shop manual.

I don"t have a solenoid valve on my 1970 model, usually have to choke her to death after turning off the key if engine is hot, been wondering if I should leave it in gear and load the clutch up instead

if you replace the solenoid, I would keep that sawed off one rolled in a rag in the toolbox, get you home next time

Mine does now; diesel after it is hot. I just shut off the ignition while in gear. A gas engine allowed to run-on(diesel) is very hard on valves, pistons, and rod bearings. This Perkins engine is built for diesel fuel and converted at the factory to run on gasoline, but the compression ignition of gasoline is not the same as diesel fuel, it occurs at the wrong time and is still harmful. I just want to know if this valve controls anything other than fuel shutoff when key is turned off. If is doesn't I will fabricate a manual control using a choke cable to stop dieseling at shut-down.
