I am having triouble with no power when putting the motor in a strain. I have a 62 MF 35 with the continental engine and multi power transmission. The motor was running good while doing some light mowing but began acting like it has no power. The motor won't pull when it has a load on it. I believe it is the governor but am not sure. Any thoughts or suggestions on what to do?

TIA,
Durand

Just wanted to post a follow-up to this in case it may help someone else. Finally had time to get back on the tractor and work on it. I put all new plugs, wires, cap, rotor, points, condensor, and changed the coil. Runs like a charm after I figured out I had made the wrong adjustment on the governor. Thanks to Big Dean for the assist and e-mails and to all who offered suggestions!

Thanks for the suggestions! I'll go through and tune it up since it has been a while. The governor does work but it seems as if it doesn't move much when reving the engine. I can take a screwdriver and it moves easily and the motor revs like it should. I'll post a follow-up when I find out what is causing the problem in case it may help someone else. Again-Thanks

I just suffered thru that same thing. Disassembled carburator and reassembled. Nothing changed. Check points and condensor. Nothing there. Changed spark plugs got more power. Moved distributor about 1/4 inch bang the thing is working great. Looks like spark plugs replacement and adjustment of dwell.

Respectfully, the dwell adjustment refers to the time that the points are closed. If you moved you distributor "...about 1/4 inch...", you made a significant change in the ignition timing.

Check the governor linkage when you accelerate the engine. Makes ure it moves smoothly and is not binding anywhere. If that looks good, make sure that your ignition system is up to snuff ( fat bluish spark, timing right and advance system operating correctly, firing order right) then check out fuel delivery and float operation.

i.e. timing advanced properly, and fuel mixture adaquately rich. If all else is well, there is a remote chance that the centrifugal advance weights in the dist are stuck and can't advance the timing during times of need.
