Starter for MF35?

I have a MF 35, 1958 (I think), Perkins 3 cyl. It's a working tractor on our place here in Washington. It's recently started not turning over. I've been able to take the starter off, manually turn the shaft a bit, and then reinstall it and it will then start. My sense is that the brushes are shot and that by re-positioning them via hand turning the shaft, I'm able to find a slightly better point of contact. But, it needs re-building in any event, I suppose.

Can anyone refer me to a shop to have it rebuilt, or a place where I can buy a new/remanufactured one? Thanks.

Look in the yellow pages under alternators or starters or generators and just call around. You'll find someone who rebuilds the things. Oddly enough, I was talking with my regular car mechanic (this is a guy who has all the compooters and stuff (he's about 46)), and he says he's perfectly happy to rebuild a starter, alternator, or generator. Apparently, it's not too difficult. They just make more money replacing them. I've never tried it, but when the generator on my MF 2135 went out, I found an old guy about twenty miles away who still supports himself rebuilding those things. He did a great job on my generator, and, I'm sure you could find someone who can rebuild your starter for around $50. Give it a try and lemme know what you find out.

I REPLACED MY STARTER RECENTLY.
I PURCHASED MINE AT MY LOCAL DEALER. THE COST WAS AROUND 200 DOLLARS.

MAKE SURE TO CHECK YOUR WIRING ALSO.
AFTER I PUT THE STARTER BACK ON I STILL HAD PROBLEMS IT TURNED OUT TO BE A LOOSE CONNECTION.
