PTO seal and Pertronix on a 35

Hi Folks. Yesterday I put a new PTO seal in and It wasn't real hard, but getting the seal to slide over the step on the shaft was. Then I had an idea, I cut a plastic ice cream tub into a long strip that would roll up and fit over the shaft. I slid the housing with seal in it right in to place. The plastic acted like a ramp to make a smooth run of it, then just pull the plastic out.
I also bit the bullet and bought a Pertronix kit. It's an 1145A like their website says will fit, but the plate is way too big to fit. It has the # 1145 (no A) printed on it. Has anyone else come across this? What's wrong? Is it the wrong plate in the box, or a different distributor than normal? Does the 1145A kit usually have a plate with 1145, without the A, stamped on it, or is that a different kit? Thanks!
