My 1956 MH50 pops out of reverse unless I hold the shifter in. What is the problem?

That problem is usually caused by a weak or broke detent spring. I have seen a few detents that that was worn out but that is very rare. another thing that can cause it is the wear on the first & reverse sliding gear on the main shaft or the reverse idler gear or both of those gears.
