I am having a problem with the hydralic lift on my MF 65 Tractor. It works aright when I first start it up, after it has been running a while. I can"t lift my Bushhog more than a few inches. I was wondering if someone had an idea what needed to be fixed. Just so I could get an idea of what kind of money I will be looking at to fix it. Thank you for any help.
James

I had this problem with a MF loader. The problem was a worn pressure relief valve. When the oil warmed up it thinned out enough to bypass the valve. The internal hydraulic system in your tractor has a pump with a relief valve. Wear in either component could cause this. Another possability is wear allowing oil to leak past the rings in the rockshaft cylinder under the seat. (This would be the cheapest and easiest to fix.)Out of curiousity, if you lift the bush hog with the engine at idle, does it lift smoothly or in jerky little increments? Cheers Kevin.

I will have to check on raising the bushhog at idle, but I believe that it goes up smoothly. In looking at my shop manual it tells me to take off the inspection cover and look for leaks. Where would the cover be located. There seems to be inspection covers all over the tractor. I am guessing that it would be the cover that has the trans dipstick in it? Would that be correct?
Thanks again for any help.

Yes, the access cover you need to remove is on the right side with the dip stick tube in it. Becareful when you check for leaks and whatever you do, don't put your hand in there!

Well I found a problem. I have a grove the size of the grand canyon in the cylinder wall of the Lift cylinder. Does anyone know where I could get a new one. I already check the MF dealer, and they told me No such luck, they dont make them any more. I am also going to look at getting it honed tomorrow. It really might be to far gone for that though. Thanks again for your help.

Can't believe that your MF dealer can't get them. Look at the folks on the left side of this forum. I believe they have them. If they don't try Walt's tractor parts or so a web search and look for Ferguson Tractor Parts.

It could be as simple as a lack of fluid or it could require an adjustment or it could have a stuck relief valve or a leaking lift cylinder. If your mechanically capable, you should be able to repair it if you have a factory shop manual.

Did this just happen or has it always been this way? Do you have the right ammount of fluid in it? Is it the right spec fluid? Check your owners manual and check to see what the spec if you don't know. If you don't have a book, call your nearest MF dealer.

I do have a shop manual. I got the fuild from the MF dealer so I would think that it was the correct weight. It use to not do it, it started to get worst I guess as time went on. I will look up the items that you suggested. I have never taken it a part so I really dont know that much about it. Thanks for the suggestions
