I have eight utility and boat trailers in the farmyard at the moment, and the one I could not do without is a solid, 2000 lb-axle 4 X 6' with a tailgate (with chains like the old pickups) and sturdy 13" tires. Everyone comments on how robust this particular trailer is: it's made from fairly heavy steel and I can put 400 pounds on the extended tailgate without bending it or the chains I bolted to the sides of the box. I tow it behind everything from my SUV to a succession of golf carts. It makes frequent trips to the quarry for a yard of gravel or sand per trip. It got dragged through the mud behind tractors all spring. Of course it is useful for hauling wood, fence posts, planks, planer shavings, 50 gallon drums, etc. It is a mobile workbench. It is easy to manoeuvre in tight quarters and store because of its short length. Remember that a utility trailer doesn't have to do everything: 90% will be just fine, and most loads are well under a ton, so think small. Be sure to put a jack on the front of it. Your back will thank you.
