This may be a stupid question to a lot of you,, but this tractor was basicly dumped in my lap with no instructions.. I have her running great but need to know how to operate it. There are 2 levers, I"m sure they operate the PTO. One is on the right side of the seat area, in a slide bracked. Looks like it has an adjustable "stop" in the bracket. I can move thsi lever back and fourt while it is running and nothing happens. The other lever is on the left down on the gear case. If I try to move it while the tractor is running, i get a gringing sound as if it is trying to go in to gear. What are these 2 levers and how do I operate them correctly.

THANKS

Buy an owners manual. This will help you know what things are for and how to maintain the tractor.

Lever on left is for PTO. Push in on the clutch, then engage the lever.

Lever on right in the slide is for the 3 point. Clutch must be released for 3 point to raise when tractor is running.

THANKS... Thats kind of what I figured. I did get the left lever to engage and the PTO shaft spins, however, I could not get the 3pt to go up, it's down now. Which way do I move the lever to make it go up? Do you think that it may take a little time to let the pressure build up after sitting for so long? (he said 5 years) I didn't run it long, still have radiator leaks I need to tend to..

I'm pretty sure you TO-30 doesn't have live hydraulics. That means your PTO has to be spinning in order for the 3 point to lift.
While it's spinning, move your 3 point lever into the vertical position. That should do it, unless you have other problems.

HTH,
Chuck

To raise the 3pt the lever is slid into a vertical position. It is forward or horizontal for the 3pt to lower.

If the tractor has not been ran in awhile, it may take some time to build up pressure. Run the tractor out of gear with the clutch released and raise the lever to the up position. Can't remeber if the PTO on those need to be engaged like the 8N's to get the pump working. (I am thinking it does not, but you could try it.) Been awhile since I ran a 30.

Did the 3pt work before it was parked? Could be seals or other problems.

Got it going. Yes, The PTO has to be engaged before the 3pt will operate. Like you guys said, I ran it in nutral with the PTO engaged, clutch out and it did take a few minutes, but it works. I was able to stand on the 3pt arms while it was going up and it lifted me (230lbs) with no problem. I ran it up and down a few times to get the fluids pumped all throught it. I'm a happy tractor man now..

Not happy any more.. The 3 pt has been very slow to operate lately and just dosn"t have the power to lift the bush hog. Could it be the fluid? I put 5 gallons of the GL 1 90w in it.. SHould it take another for 6 gallon total? Would that make a big difference in the 3pt operation? Is there a screen/filter that might need to be cleaned? The Hyd fluid is milky looking so i"m going to change it.
