Bought a Pony with motor in a basket and now have it numming, but it sheared small pin on one of the oil pump gears. Pulled engine and replaced pin and cut a slight thicker gasket (thought that pump gears might be rubbing on pump housing when assembled) and started it and had good oil pressure. Next time started no, oil pressure. Checked it is NOT plugged. Have not yet pulled engine to check what is problem. Any suggestions?
Thanks for your help and suggestions. IRV

Irv, I don't know what to say. Some engines have a problem with losing prime and can't suck oil. I can't remember where the pump is on this tractor but I don't think it is submerged in oil. You may have to pull the pan and check the dip tube that goes to the oil sump. The pickup must be without any holes above the oil surface in the sump. Regarding prime, I have not heard of this being a problem on the Continental engine. When I rebuilt the Continental in my G (Allis), I didn't prime it. And besides, you had recently run it so prime can't be it. I just can't imagine that pump pulling hard enough to shear a spring pin.

What did you use for the pin?

First pin that sheared was factory solid pin, second pin was roll pin that was driven in and then cut off.
