3 point lifting problems on MF265

I have a 1980 265 I recently bought and am having trouble getting the lift arms from the 3 point to lift high enough to reach the pins on a standard 5ft. rotary cutter. I have adjusted the linkage to finally get it to at least lift the cutter only several inches off the ground. With nothing attached and the lift arms as high as they will lift under hydraulic pressure, I am able to lift them manually an additional several inches until they top out and reach what would appear to be the normal lifting limit. I have no manual but suspect I have hydraulic flow problems. Clogged filter, slow pump etc. Does anyone have any idea if there is something adjustable that would prevent the 3 point from lifting to its highest point or what might be causing this? The lift arms also need weighted assistance (I stand on them)to get them to drop if nothing is attached. Thanks for any responses.

doubt it would be pump, Massey pumps will work forever! on the pressure control systems the inner lever works in reverse, pulling it right back (or up) drops the implement. lever in the middle, lifts the implement at full presure. moving it past the middle the pressure drops off, untill fully forward (or down) means low presure. Normal systems are just down=down and up=up!!! Make sure that the draft lever (outer lever) is right up! if non of this helps then could be a blown seal on the stack pipe to the changeover block. hope this helps alan

Do you know if your MF265 has a Pressure control quadrant or a straight Position control quadrant. With Pressure control the Position control part works backward from most of the three point controls it could make a big difference in what your problem could be.

I really do not know what type of control this model has. Is there something I could physically see that would indicate the type it might have? Thanks,

Sorry for the slow reply. I looked at the lift control and it is similar in that it has the lever for the "draft" and a lever for "position".There is no selection for pressure. There is however a point (up all the way)on the "position" part that says "continious pumping". There are however a couple of screws that prevent the lever from being able to slide to that position. Thanks for all the help so far and I hope this info helps.

By the sounds of it, the two screws are the stops which are adjustable to set the working hieght of an implement, the proper stops are metal bolts with big plastic nuts on them, pushng the lift lever out from these stops and up allows you to get past them. if not, remove the screws and get the lever up into "constant pumping" just for a second or two, to see if you get some more hieght out of her, but don't leave it in "constant pumping" for long, else you'l overheat the oil and damage relief valve! good luck
