Can anyone tell me the gas/oil mixture on the L340 336cc JLO engine and how to adjust the carb (which screw does what and general guidelines)

Thanks in advance,

The mix is exactly right, but you're better off to run 93 octane gas in 2-strokes. It runs, on average, about 115' Degrees cooler than the 87 octane gas. As far as your carb adjustment, you're right on the money as well. A good way to guage the colour of the plug is to match it with a darker brown paper grocery bag. That's how we always did it when we were racing sleds. I ran a 76 Polaris TX 440 with a few mods in vintage class and had a ball. I'd be glad to help you out with any more questions that you might have with your 2-strokes. Kippster

You have either a 1970 or 1971 since these were the only years this model was made. Back then they wanted a fuel oil mix of 20:1 " using regular gasoline and two stroke motor oil meeting Mil. Spec. 2104A (Massey Ferguson M-1133 or equivalent)". You should have a Tillotson carb with number HR33A for 1970 or HR56A for 1971.

Your carb probably has three adjustment screws. One for idle and a high speed and low speed screw. Your low speed or idle mixture screw should be closest to the engine and marked with the letter "L". the initial adjustment for this is one turn out. The high speed mixture screw is furthest away from engine and should be marked with an "H". Its initial adjustment is 1 turn out also. Any other adjustments must be made with engine running and driving snowmobile. Be very careful not to lean out high speed screw or you will have a piston melt down. Make sure your carb numbers also match what I mentioned earlier or these adjustments may not apply.

Thanks for the info...it is a HR56A carb. I am going to try to get this motor to run right...I live in GA so naturally it is not on a snowmobile(however I still have the ski whiz) but it is on a golf cart. If you have any other suggestions on tuning while it is running or what to look for on a good tune please let me know...I am new to 2 strokes.

Thanks again

Brian

The best thing to look at is the spark plugs. You want a light brown colour to a very, very light black. If they are any lighter carb is too lean on the high adjustment.
