I was wondering if a 1956 Massey Harris model 50 had power steering and if not can power steering be added? Thanks.

I don't think the MH50 ever came with power steering but I have put the power steering off of the MF50 on a few of them.

Big Dean my Massey-Harris 50 has power steering and has the power steering decals. I am the 2nd owner of this tractor and it has always been shedded and never repainted. I thought maybe power steering was a factory option, like on later model Massey- Fergusons. I do enjoy your helpful posts. Tom

Thanks that is good to know that they did have the option for power steering. The reason I thought they did not was our parts man always told us the parts book did not show power steering on the F40 & MH50 when we tried to get parts for one. I never look myself.

Big Dean I finally just gave up on trying to get a front hydarolicpump hooked up on my 50 and bought a loader tractor. Now I wonder if the front axle assembly off of a later 50 would have bolted upto my tractor and would have moved the steering crank arm away from the pump shaft? Thanks for any answer. Tom

I wish I had known about your problem sooner. We went through the same thing with a 65 high arch about 35 years ago. The earlier tractors had longer steering arms on the top of the spindles so the arm at the center of the tractor had to move farther to turn the wheels all the way. What you need to do is replace the spindle arms with the newer style, shorter arms. Then the center arm won't interfere with the shaft for the hydraulic pump.

Bob N.Y. I am going to put this idea on file and someday get around to doing it. I still have the loader and what would be wrong with having two red loader tractors? Tom
