Hello fellow Massey fans! I have a local deal who is trying to sell me a MF 2745, showing 1200 hrs, but dealer says has 1800 hrs. I believe it to be a 24 speed. Looks weathered, needs a muffler or straight pipe, cab kit, and has some leaks either from the power steering or fuel pump. They want $6500 out of it. What is the real deal with these machines, are the any good? I know guys that love them and guys that hate them, but other than the trany is the common issue, no one can tell me what to look for, or how to fix it, should I buy one. Also, should I buy one, can the PTO"s be swapped out like on the 1130"s and 1155"s, or is it always going to be a 1000 PTO?

One last thing, I've seen some guys are looking for 1130"s and 1150"s, there is a widow woman who has one of each, which she has been trying to sell for several years here in N. Indiana. 1130 = "69 (I think) with +/- 1900 hrs, t-rails, full weights, might need a sleeve kit, $4500. 1150 = +/- 2800 hrs, new rears and dual with cast centers, cab, 540 pto, some weights , $5500. They have some leaks. I think he has been gone for 7 years now, and they"ve set inside since.

Thanks for the help! cg

Save yourself a lot of headaches and leave this alone. We purcahsed a 1983 new. Treated good and it never was any good & we were MF people before & after. Parts are expensive & hard to find.

I HAD A 2745 WITH A 24SP, PRETTY GOOD TRACTOR , BOY IT SHURE WOULD PULL BUT HAD TO SPEND $5000 ON THE TRANNY. HERE IS THE REAL DEAL , MASSEY DOES NOT OFFER ALL THE PARTS ANYMORE, LIKE THE MAIN DRUM, PLANETARY GEAR SET. I WAS LUCKY AND FOUND SOME GOOD USED PARTS FROM KUHNS IN ILL, AND A MASSEY DEALER ON THE EASTERN COAST OF VA. IT IS NOT THAT EASY TO MAKE A 8SP OUT OF IT EITHER, YOU MUST ROB ANOTHER 8SP TRANNY FOR PARTS AND GOOD LUCK FINDING THEM.OVERALL THESE WHERE PRETTY GOOD TRACTORS , IF I WAS GOING TO BUY ONE IT WOULD BE AN 8SP, AND THAT PRICE SEEMS A LITTLE HIGH FOR THAT TRACTOR. WE GOT RID OF OURS AND GOT A 4440 JD. HOPE THIS HELPS.

Smells "fishy" to me, shows 1200 hrs but dealer "says" 1800? HOW does he know? Do you know the dealer? $6500 is high for one in the shape you descibed. What year is it? When I had my 2805 I was told that when the 24 speed starts going bad the reverse starts "slipping" or shuddering after it warms up. I would need to know the REAL repair history and give it a good "test drive". Check the lift and steering thoroughly after it warms up.

I had a later model 2745 that I had good luck with. If trans. is a problem they can take out the power shift to leave you with an 8 speed that causes no trouble. Yes you can change shafts to have either 540 or 1000 pto.If it has the in line bosh inj. pump that is a plus. Good luck
