I bought a rebuilt waterpump for my MF 35 I have to remove the fan and pulley from the old
pump and put it on the new one with out breaking it. The parts manual shows a waterpump shaft with no keyway or anything. Its smooth, just like the rebuilt pump . Any ideas on how to get the pulley
piece off without breaking it?????

Hi,
First of all measure the position of the pump pulley relative to the pump body so that it can go back to the same position. I have been overhauling MF pumps for some 30 years and have found that the easiest way is to make a puller.
A metal disc or some plate about 1/2 inch thick should be drilled to line up with the blade bolts. Mark the centreline of the shaft and drill for 1/2 inch or 5/8 clearance. Weld a fine thread nut over the centre hole, bolt the puller to the pulley using 5/16unf bolts and use a set bolt to push the shaft out. It's a bit of work but it's the safest way. Refitting should be carried out in a press and make sure it starts 'square'.

Cheers
David P

I don't recall this problem on my MF690 when I replaced the water pump. I think it came with the pulley already pressed on. Where did you get your water pump. I bought at MF dealer, very reasonable. I would take it to a shop that rebuilds water pumps, starters, alternators, and such. They will be able to do this in a few minutes.

Recently went through this and it was no fun. Tried everything suggested with no luck. Finally found a guy willing to use a hydralic 25 ton press and a torch. Thought we were going to have to cut it off, but at the last effort it popped loose. Put pressure on the shaft with the press and use the torch on the pulley. I had tried a bearing puller with no luck. Maybe it won't be as bad as mine. Lots of luck.

Takes a press, probably hydraulic. That's for the flange. The pulley and blade unbolt from the flange.

The fan and the cone come off with bolts. The flange and pulley press off and on. I've done it once, but forgot the details until I checked the parts book.

I used a steering wheel puller for my Massey 65.You might need to add some heat if it don"t want to come. Make sure you measure the distance from the pulley to the pump housing so you know how far to press when you re-assemble.
