I just bought a 135 gasoline tractor. What kind of oil needs to be in there and how many quarts? What is the filter number and where is the pressure supposed to read on the guage?

I have a 135 that I use 30 weight hd quaker state in and have always used massey filters in it. Never have had an engine problem one! I believe it takes 5 quarts to change it but I don't recall right off. The tractor is for sale now as I've replaced it with a 2020 Deere diesel.
My question for you is you say 83 135, 135's were only made into the early 70's.

Simple, answer, whatever you use most will probably be ok. We used to use 10w-30 in our 165 gasser, but then switched to 15w-40 because we buy that in drums for all of our other tractors. We change the oil every 100 hrs, usually in the spring/ summer and fall. If you use it for short periods of time then shut down right away, go atleast every 50 hrs. If you start it and work it 1/2 hr or more most times, go ahead and use a 100 hr. schedual, unless you don't want that to fall on Jan. 1st in the cold!

I have '70 135 with 3 cyl Perkins gas, went to straight 30 weight oil for summer, if you need to start it in the winter, go to thinner oil in fall, takes about 6-7 quarts if I recollect

mine has spin-on oil filter, uses the same one the 3 cyl diesel takes, some 135's use a cartridge type filter, cheepo Frams are barely OK if you change your oil regularly, check in their off-road book

for good quality filter, go to NAPA and get real oil filter, costs 3x but weighs a ton compared to Fram

don't let the boys get started on synthetic oil versus dinosaur

Hi,

Yeah, and when you are ready to change the oil again, the NAPA WIX filter will weigh twice as much as when you put it on, wheras the FRAM will wetgh have the weight because sine if the filter media may still be inside you motor!!

Also, stay away from Puralator, Allied, Quaker State and ( for us Canucks ) Canadian Tie filters!!

I would stick with Dino oil.

Take care,

Will
