My MF35 will not start. The solinoid clicks but the starter will not engage. I jumped around the solinoid and still the starter would not engage. The bolt on the starter where the cable attaches was a bit loose so I tightened it up. It still would not engage. So I attempted to pull the starter off to take it to a shop to be checked. I got the bolts out but could not get the starter off because it will not pass the distributor housing. I backed out the distributor set screw thinking that might give me a little more room but thestarter still would not pass. I tried wiggling, turning....everything still I could not get the starter out of the fly wheel housing. It lacks about 1/4 of an inch passing. So I bolted it back up. There has to be a trick to this....The starter should fall off once the bolts are out. I am not new at this...been fooling with farm equipment since I was 10 years old so am a little embarressed to ask for help on something so simple...but here I am!! Any suggestions???

Thanks,

JK

Hi Joe/ I have a mf 35 gas and had the same problem as you/ I got the bolts out of the unit with little room to get the starter out/ I manovered it past the distributor and took it out towards the bottom of the tractor / after I got it out i see there is a flat spot on the front of the starter to allow it to go past the distributor / hopes this helps Eldon

I am no expert here. You didn't say if this was gas or diesel? On my Desiel MF35. I had to take 2 bolts out of the power steering housing and slide it out before removing the starter.

Is the starter on the left or right side of the tractor as you are in the seat?

Just a few questions before the experts show up.

Good luck... the guys here will get you up and going soon enough.

Joel

Thanks Joel....this is a 4 cylinder gas without power steering. The starter is on the left if you are in the driver's seat. There is no other obstruction other than the distributor housing which is molded into the block.

Thanks again.

Joe
