MF-35 Power Steering, Help needed

I need the advise of some of you more seasoned mechanics. Today my 35 started leaking power steering fluid out around the top of the steering column just under the steering wheel. After studying the parts cut-aways in the service manual, I've come to the conclusion that the spool valve assembly is worn out and will have to be replaced. Can anyone confirm this? Has anyone experienced the same problem? Second question: Could the end play in the steering shaft be excessive and allow the spool valve to leak? Your advice and experiences will be appreciated.

I had the same problem. The steering shaft had to be replaced. It was pitted and would not provide provide a good seal. It is my understanding that this is probably due to the tractor spending many days in the rain. Mine is never in the rain but it was 40 years old when I bought it!

I am NOT a tractor expert but only relaying to you my experience.
