Apparently Massey changed the style of lights and
pods between 1953 and 1954 on the 44 Specials.

Does anyone know a good source for acquiring the
front headlights. The old ones are 6V and measurement across the light is 5" . They have a
single pole on the back for the current to come thru and are grounded against a tab that is in the
light pod. I think the same style of light was used on the 444, and 333.
Thanks in advance for any replies.

We get into a grey area on Special/Triple lamps. Probably since anything that fit, was used to replace a burned out light, bulb, or sealed beam.
Early Specials did have a larger light, about 6",
by mid-'54, the 'Guide',with left/right division
line (4 3/4"lamp?) replaced it. The rear, two color Guide w/ the knob stayed the same. The front
cans are almost the same on later Specials, and
the Triples, but the lens steel clamp has more
depth, on Triples(5/16"?). I have burnt 4 3/4"
Guides, since the appearance means more than the
possible after dark use. The 5" generic I tried,
was a oversize for the can. There may be more to
try, but the Wagner is under 4 1/2", requires the
auto body black gum to secure, looks 'fair'. You
find mismatches on most old iron. An area of
compromise, for restoration:day verses nite use.

Do I detect a little skullduggery here? If I put a code name out like M.Y. would I be in the ballpark?

Mr.B, You might have too many restoration breaks.
Blackouts and ballparks? Getting a lot of the the latest pain net virus,up north? Better grab another rusting old iron 'correct red' project.
Those lamps are a Pandora's Box to sort. At times,
you have to put them back in the box, pick up
a few more at a swap meet. Will get back to you.
Been dry on this site, an e mail summed it as:
spark plug Q's, and clutch position functions.I
must hurry back to a hundred waiting tasks.
