Radiator hose came off the 65 yesterday and it got hot. Didn't stop I stopped it. Let it cool and put the hose back on and filled the radiator. Now it won't turn over. It has multipower but hasn't worked since I have had it. Other than taking the starter off and turning the flywheel, is there any other way to turn the engine such as pto? Thanks

Hi Gary,
Sounds like you may have blown the head gasket.
The easiest thing to do is to disconnect the injector pipes at the injectors and either slacken them all or remove them taking note of which ones come out with the seals on and which dont. Assuming that you do not have a loader or other implement attached to the underside of the clutch housing, remove the cover plate. The engine can be turned by inserting a bar or large screw-driver between the fins on the flywheel. With the injectors removed you should be able to to turn the engine at the pto if you have something suitable.
When you turn the engine you may have water spurting from one or more ports. If you cannot turn the engine then you may have a piston seized in one of the bores. You should however have a minute amount of movement at the flywheel being the clearance in the crank bearings and smallend bush.
Cheers
DavidP

Thanks. I took the starter off and the flywheel moves so I know its not locked up. Hopefully I can charge the battery real good and it will crank.

Took the starter back off and turned the flywheel. It turns fine about two thirds of the way around and then stops. Guess something is broke. What do you think????

Hi Gary,
That was the reason for removing the injectors. At this time I would guess that you have water in one or more bores. You can turn the engine...that's good. As a piston approaches TDC (top dead centre) any water on top of it will be compressed. As you cannot compress a liquid (as far as we are concerned here) this may well be the cause of the 'blockage'. It's possible that you have something like a broken con-rod but I think unlikely. With the injectors removed any water in the bores will soon escape. Make a note of which one/s.
Cheers DavidP

Hi again Gary,
Sorry to dampen your optimism, but if you have any water in the bores you are looking at a new head gasket at the very least, possibly a warped or cracked cylinder head, maybe even damage to the block.
