MF35 Loader hydraulic controls

We have a MF35 (diesel, dual-clutch) with a front-end loader powered off the standard hydraulics. The lift is raised by moving the draft lever back, outside the sector marks, and lowered by moving the lever forward to within the sector marks. There's no clear "stop" position for the control, moving the lever a fraction of an inch changes from rising really slowly to lowering really slowly. The loader only rises once the rear arms are fully up.

This is inconvenient because I can't operate the 3pt hitch without the loader descending, and when travelling I have to keep fiddling with the control to keep the loader part-raised.

My questions are :
(1) Is this normal operation with this type of rig, or does it sound like something is out of order or out of adjustment in the hydraulics?

(2) Would it be sensible/useful to use an external control for the loader? Some sort of three position valve that would give clear up-stop-down control? How easy would this be?

Hi John -

Yeah. System is a mickey mouse setup, but better than shovelling!

The 65 system has no constant pumping like the later ones. And the lift arms operate a feedback system to reduce the pump flow as the arms are raised. Max pump delivery - about 4 gpm - is with the arms fully down. Delivery shuts off completely with the arms fully raised.

Sounds like you have a 2 spool valve with both connected to the loader. In this configuration, the arms have to be locked in the down, or nearly down, position to operate the left spool on a remote cyl.

We use the same setup, but use the left lever as a switch to select internal 3 point control (back position) or remote (center position). With this setup, you can control one remote function with the right lever. For two or more functions, you need a remote 2 or 3 spool valve to control them - fed from, and switched on by, the right lever.

As I said, a pain, but.....

JAck.
