stupid ?...where does the fuel filter or filters go on a z134 gas mf35? found the glass bowl under the fuel tank(it had been painted over and looked like a metal bowl) there was a bunch of crud in it but no filter. Is that where it goes? Also, anyone know the correct autolite plug number for this engine?

Spark plugs: Champion D21, Autolite 386, NGK A6.
The Champ and NGK are non resistor, Autolites are resistor types. Resistor types stop radio interference. I installed the NGKs in my 35, and it runs great on them. Autolites are also good, I didn"t like the Champs. Motor seems run smoother and have more power with NGKs. They have a bigger hex on them so you"ll need a bigger socket, but it fits in the head. For the fuel filter, take the glass cup with you to a tractor parts shop and ask them to match a screen and gasket to it. That"s what I did.

the fuel strainer goes inside the fuel bowl. it goes up top inside the body of it between the gasket and the body. if it's missing, the local agco dealer should have one. it's not very expensive. as far as spark plug, the champion number is D-16, or D-21 for an older engine that burns some oil. a D-21 is a hotter plug that resists ashing better.

so the fuel bowl is the top portion of that housing that the glass sediment bowl was hooked to?

the top portion is the housing that the filter and fuel bowl attach to. it should also have a shut off valve in it.

OK..TOOK THE CARB APART AND AM REBUILFING IT THIS WEEKEND. ON TOP OF THE GLASS SEDIMENT BOWL HSG IS A ROUND MESH MATERIAL. I GUESS THATS THE FILTER, ALTHOUGH WHERE THE FUEL COMES OUT OF THE TANK THRU THE HOLE, THERE IS NO FILTER..IT COMES STRAIGHT OUT FROM THE TANK. NOT SURE WHERE THE FUEL GETS "FILTERED". ALSO, WHERE THE METAL FUEL LINE GOES TO THE CARB, IT CONNECTS TO A BRASS FITTING (L-SHAPED). BUT THERE IS NO FILTER OR MESH IN THERE. SHOULD i BE OKAY HOOKING EVERYTHING BACK UP AND LEAVING IT AS IT IS?

the fuel is filtered as it passes through the screen to go in the line to the carb. as long as the screen is there, and clean, it should be alright
