Lost my reverse last year- long story short, replaced cluthc packs in shuttle transmission, replaced hydraulic pump as wear was showing. Now that it"s back together, reverse works just fine but it only "catches" and goes into forward occasionally - and for no particular reason. Most of the time when I push the forward pedal nothing happens. Checked the linkage and seems to be right on. Ckecked the "regulators" on side of transmission (that screw into pump body). I"m stumped. Having had transmission apart twice and engine out thrice in last year am about coming to the end of my patience - sure have learned a lot though

I forgot to say if either or both of the regulator valve are bad it will not work in either direction

One of three thing can cause this problem # 1 if it will work when the oil is cold but not after the oil heats up you may have broke one of the sealing rings when you put the transmission back together it happens. # 2 If the bearings are bad where the shift linkage goes into the transmission that will make it shift one direction but only part time or not at all the other direction. # 3 the linkage under the step plate is out of adjustment. This is the easiest to check & should be checked first. When you push the reverse pedal the spring for the forward should be loose and when you push the forward pedal the spring for reverse should be loose. You adjust these by lengthening or shorting the rods the spring are on. Hope this will help If I can answer any more questions email me.
