Would like to start a Massey Ferguson 50 gasoline tractor that has been sitting in a garage for the last 10 years. I will change all the oils, plugs, fluids etc and will install a new battery but need to know what else should be done. I would appreciate any advice.

Thanks

Rich has some real good suggestios.I would suggest when you have the spark plugs out put a little oil in the cylinders. That way there are not dry when you start it up.Also I would drain the feul system and put in fresh feul.I mix a little two-cycle oil in my gas.It helps lube the engine after sitting all winter.

Hello. I would just look at the quality of the oil that you drain out of the crankcase. If it is milky or if there are any signs of problems then maybe it would be advisable to drop the pan and make sure that sludge or anything worse hasn't developed in there over the years. Another suggestion that i would make is to pressure lube the system before you start. This would make sure that all the moving parts have oil before you begin. One other thing that I would say is that after you start it, take the rocker arm cover off while it is running. make sure that there is oil flow coming up and hitting them. If there is then i would say your good to go. If there isn't then i would shut it down fast and make sure that all oil passages are free of sludge.
These are just my suggestions, my two cents-for whatever its worth. I don't know all the answers as I am learning this stuff myself. Anyone feel free to correct me or add to what I have said.

Rich
