We own a 44 with six cylinder engine. Have never seen another one at the shows. How rare was this option?

If I remember correctly there were about 85,000 44's produced, so are relatively rare compared to 4 cyl.

I have read that there were 6657 six cylinder 44's produced. They quit making them in 1951 while continuing the 4 cylinder up thru 1953.

Harly's info is the same as the data in my Masey book. The 44-6 row-crop was built from 1946 to 1951.There was one row crop built in 1946.The 44-6 standard axle model was built from 1947 to 1950.The 44-6 was only produced as a gas model. If you have a 1947 model it is a centennial model.

Believe this to be special order Serial No. 44-6-GS 2346 are we right. Are J.I. Case collectors but have a few odd tractors such as this.

From the serial number you have a 1948 gas, standard axle model 44-6.The break down on the serial number is as follows:44 is the model;6 is the number of cylinders in the engine;G is for gas engine;S is for standard straight axle. The number 2346 is the production number.

The data book I have on Massey tractors shows a total of 6,657 44-6 models made. They were only made in a row-crop and standard axle models and only with a gas engine.

Thanks for the info guys. Had a feeling the S meant standard and not special as Gord thought. Still quite impressed with the tractor. A real workhorse. Are these standard 6's rare How many were built altogether.
