Hi everyone! Im new to Massey Harris and have lots of questions! Let me start out by admiting that i really am an Allis-Chalmers man by heart, but my heart is big enough for this little MH 81 i just got. It was previously owned by a man that i called "Grandpa Reuben". He was just like a grandpa to me. He passed away about 4 years ago and his son-in-law inherited the 81. I told him that if he ever wanted to sell the tractor make sure i was the first to know, and well now grandpa reubens tractor will have a new home, the deal has been made. Please help me learn more about this tractor, here is what i know. Its an 81 Massey Harris, narrow front. It has a continental engine, my families Allis G on the farm has a continental and its one heck of a good engine. The 81, has no side panels, a common thing with old tractors of this type, i dont know where to start to find them, and when i do i know i will have to take out another loan! It runs, but smokes. This calls for an overhaul, hopefully not to expensive, but the tractor needs to run good, so whatever it takes. Cosmetically, it is rough, someday it will get painted but for now i want to overhaul it. Not much else i can say about it, i have only seen it twice, should have it home in a week. Now for the questions, where is the serial number so i can find out what year it is(i am guessing somewhere around the tranny??), what is it worth in current condition and what is it worth restored? How many HP is the MH 81? Is there anything else i should know about it?? Sorry for the long post, Thanks for all your help, Don

If you get the engine in good shape and tuned up up will love how sweet these little flat heads run. Side panels are reproduced in Kansas, look on e bay for some listed at this time, also "massey collectors association" .com will have parts listed buy the same man. Lots of good luck and hope for a new member in one of the state chapters of Massey Collectors club. You may have to scrape or rub a little but that model and serial number is stamped on the top of the transmission case , I think near the pto lever.

Nebraska Tractor Test:Test No. 376{September 1941)Drawbar horsepower 20.8;belt horsepower 27.The 81 used a 124 Continental engine.Serial numbers are stamped on a plate on left side of main frame and are also stamped on the top centre of the transmission housing. The side panels are getting harder to find.As far as price I would guess at around 500.00..It depends alot on how much you want it and are willing to pay.Fred Wolfe has massey parts. He collect massey tractors.I have some pictures of some of his in a book.He does a real nice job of them.He posts on this site fairly often. He may be able to help you.
