The transmission is stuck in reverse. The shifter lever will not move. Has anyone encountered this before? If so how was it corrected?

I think you will find the shift lever has slipped between the rails so what you need to do is pull up shifter boot and knock out shifter pin and pull lever up where you can put lever back in reverse hole. I have a '58 that my uncle bought new and I've taken care of since 1965, and this has happened to it many times when shifting fast.

This happens A LOT with old MF's. Usually when repeatedly working forward and backward, forward and backward, over and over. Make your shifts slow and deliberate and it won't happen as often. See BIG DEAN'S website for a better understanding of how to "unstick" it. If you operate a MF it's going to happen sooner or later.
Good luck.

i have seen this happen before. try taking the trans oil fill cap off (the one next to the shifter) and look in there with a flashlight.you will see the main shifter rail. use a long straight blade screwdriver and try to pop the shifter rail forward. remember that the shifter moves the rails opposite of shifter movement. i.e. if you move the shifter forward, it will push the shift rail back. hope this helps
