I just bought htis Massey two row planter at a sale and need help as to the model. I thought you with Massey experience and great wisdom could tell what model it would be and how available parts and manuals might be. thanks for your help.

 Either a 39 or a 78 two row in reply to Dieselrider, 03-19-2005 18:17:27
I found a decal inside the lid of the left seed box with the directions for setting the seed spacing. At the top it says the decal is for the settings of model 39 and 78 planters. So does anyone have an idea or do I just flip a coin?

Its a late fifties, early sixties two row. I saw one about month ago in pristine condition (very little paint loss, decals, etc were in good condition) at a junk yard. Too bad I didn't have the $ to buy it. I saw another one just like yours on the internet from an outfit in the Northeast/ New York State that sold planters, they were going for at least a $1100 dollars. Hope this helps

The Model 39 planters are 2 row / the model 78 are 4 row planters. most all the parts are interchangable between the two models, so it appears they are the same. I think the only difference is the 3 point hitch set-up. the Model 78 (4 row) is mounted on a tool bar.
All the seed rates/and plates are the same for both models Good luck.
