I am considering the purchase of the MF135, serial number 9A79897.
The asking price is $5200.
The engine has been recently rebuilt with new bearings, sleeves, rings, and valves.
Also both clutches have been replaced as have all the hoses and both front tires. The rear tires are in excellent condition.
It has a 3 cylinder gas engine, six forward speeds and power steering.
He even went to the trouble of replacing the decals after painting and repalced a couple of gauges. When running it had about 40 pounds of oil pressure at 1200 RPM and idled down to 400 to 500 RPM with now problem after warming up for a few minutes.
Assuming it is all the owner claims I'm wondering if the price is a good one.
Also the Tractor Tips page only lists the specs for the Perkins diesel. Can anyone tell me who makes the 3 cyl gas and what the HP is?

Thanks Neal

Thanks for the help.
All good points to think about.
I don't know the reputation of the person who is selling it and since he is a ways off I doubt I could find out from anyone I would trust.
Having rebuilt a TO-20 I know how much money you can put into parts if you do it right.
If the care put into the outside is any indication then he probably did a good job inside but again there is no way I know of to check.
I think I'm going to take the plunge and hope this doesn't turn into a long sad story.
If it turns out to be a good tractor I think it will be a nice upgrade from my 20.

Thanks Neal

Sounds like a guy who pays attention to detail so the overhaul should be ok.

You can back your price out:

$5200 - $1000 overhaul (do it yourself not hired)

$4200 - $600 for rear tires and tubes

$3600 - $400 for clutch (done yourself not hired)

$3200 - $200 to $1000 paint job

----- -----

So if you saw this "average" looking tractor sitting in a field with a $2995 price tag hanging on it would you jump at it..... heck yes.

And think of all the work and worry this guy saved you.

Mark

I have identical tractor also with rebuilt motor, love it, lugged a battery thru deep snow today just to listen to it run

"rebuilt" and "rebuilt right" are 2 very different animals, cheepo rebuild with poor quality parts is problem for the buyer, reputation of the rebuilder makes big difference

price seems high unless everything was done just exactly the right way, you are paying top dollar here, make sure you get your moneys worth

Price sounds a little high but with all the work it might not be.

The three cylinder gas is also by Perkins. About 36 hp.
