Fuel tank cap leaking...

I have a MF 65 diesel and the fuel tank cap is leaking. Apparently the filler bung on the tank is worn just enough (inside tank side) that it won"t allow the cap to tighten enough to achieve a good seal. By the way, I"m using a new cap. I need to add a new piece of think rubber material on the cap. The question I have is what material to use. Do any of you know of a material that will not dissolve in diesel, is about 1/4" think, and will not stretch?

Or...maybe you know of a better solution?

Thanks,

-Mike

I have a different leak on the fuel tank of my M 65 diesel. The fitting where the return line enters the tank is leaking. Apparently some type of epoxy was used previously. Any suggestions?

Doug,

Can the fitting to the tank be drilled and threaded to the next size pipe. If not, you can cut two round pieces of metal and braze the appropriate size fitting in the center of one. On the other tap at least three holes for screws. Install back in tank with a gasket between them.

I know Im not in Farmall land anymore but when that happens to me I make a gasket paper spacer to place under the rubber or cork cap gasket. Two rubber or corks under there make it too hard to turn.Hope that helps.

dr.sportster,

That's a good idea...I'll try it! Sometimes the most obvious misses us...sheesh.
