Looking at catalog pix of Pony's, one has a hood with no protruding lip around it's bottom, and the gas tank has no lip, and the coil is located below the distributor. Another version of the Pony has a gas tank with a lip, a hood which has a lip overlapping the front part of the gas tank, and the coil up under the hood.

I just got the tractor and have a parts book on order, but am wondering about these differences. The hood on mine has the lip, but does not fit well over the front bar grill and was wondering if parts may not be matched properly.
Thanks for any information!

Are the pictures in the catolog real or are they drawings? I have never heard or seen of a Pony with a hood without a lip or a gas tank with out a lip. These Ponys are very hard to get all of the sheet metal lined up so thats probably why yours doesn't look right. Plus a slight dent or twist can cause it all to look bad. I know when I put mine all back together it took a good day to get everything back and lined up. Its hard trying not to scratch the paint too!! Its best if you put it all together loose then snug it up cause you will have to pull, push, lift, etc. to get everything back on. Now I know why you never see too many working Ponys out there with there side shields on.

Jason,
Thanks for your comments - you may be right about the artist drawings. The information comes from a MH full line hard cover dealer catalog - a few pages are dated 11-54 - most are not which I assume precede that date. The brake side view of the Pony shows the smooth hood with the coil mounted low and the clutch side view has the lip on the tank and hood. If you have never seen one I will assume the "smooth" view is an artist conception. I appreciate your information!
